Cosy Cabins in the forest

Looking back on our autumn trip to the Cosy Cabins of Nutchel Ardennes in Belgium brings a smile to our faces. No heating or television, but oil lamps and candles illuminated our evenings, and one outlet was enough for our needs. It’s an experience we recommend to everyone: disconnect to reconnect!

Warm welcome at Nutchel Ardennes

Friday afternoon, after school, our journey to Nutchel Ardennes began. We arrived in the dark, but the forest was beautifully lit with lights. The reception, with a crackling fireplace, provided a warm welcome. We received an oil lamp, and the children got a magical fairy light, after which a golf cart took us to our cabin in the woods. The park is car-free, which enhances the tranquility.

Initially, the cabin felt cold and dark, but with the oil lamp and fireplace, a cozy atmosphere quickly emerged.

Tip: Ask Nutchel Ardennes to light the fireplace for you for a warm welcome after a long drive.

We start awkwardly, trying to light the fireplace without any lighting.

Our Cosy Cabin at Nutchel Ardennes

The cabins are so charmingly decorated, like a cozy wooden dream. Inside, there’s a mix of modern comfort and the cozy charm of a wooden hut. It truly feels like coming home, but better, because you’re right in the heart of nature!

You sleep in a sort of very large bunk bed with two double beds. The mattresses are on the floor but are wonderfully soft. There’s a warm shower and a simple kitchen. Of course, there’s no kettle, but you can boil water on the stove or over the fireplace. Nutchel cares about the planet, so everything is eco-friendly.

In our cabin, there was a very large Kapla box, and each cabin has a private terrace where you can relax. Some cabins even have a hot tub!

Activities for children at Nutchel Ardennes

At Nutchel Ardennes, there are no swimming pools or playgrounds (though there is one a few minutes’ walk from the park), but children will never be bored. Creativity is encouraged: carving pumpkins for Halloween, building huts, and making fairy houses in the fairy forest. The real playground is nature itself.

In addition, the children entertained themselves for hours by gathering wood and using the wheelbarrow.

Dining at Nutchel Ardennes

There is no restaurant in the park, but every morning you can pick up a fresh breakfast at the reception. You receive a large basket filled with goodies, and there are also special breakfast options for children. Barbecue and raclette baskets are also available.

The surroundings of Nutchel Ardennes

We barely left the park, as we wanted to embrace the Nutchel philosophy. An escape into nature, sustainability as a lifestyle, tranquility and simplicity, and creating valuable family moments. It’s an invitation to leave the hustle and bustle of daily life behind and immerse yourself in a world where nature and connection are central.

We did take a walk to the playground at Tennis Club Martelange once and also enjoyed some delicious fries at Snack’nroll in Martelange. By the way, in Martelange, you can easily cross the border into Luxembourg.
