7-day Malta itinerary with kids
Explore the island with your family in 7 days
Malta is a surprisingly great destination for families with children and toddlers. Small enough to reach everything easily, yet big enough for a week full of adventure, culture, and relaxation. We traveled with a 3- and 5-year-old and are sharing our 7-day Malta itinerary with kids, including accommodations, child-friendly attractions, and useful tips.
Tip: Consider staying in two different locations, for example in Qawra and Marsaskala, to minimize travel time and make the most of the island. If you have more time, spending a few nights on Gozo is definitely recommended.

Malta itinerary with kids Day 1: Arrival and relaxing in Qawra
We stayed first for 4 nights at AX ODYCY Hotel Qawra. After arrival, it was all about relaxing and swimming in the hotel pool—perfect for unwinding after the journey. Tip: Choose a hotel with a pool or slides, especially convenient when traveling with young children. Read more about where to stay in Malta with kids and our favorite family-friendly hotels.

Malta itinerary with kids Day 2: Popeye Village & swimming
Our first full day in Malta began with a visit to Popeye Village, originally built as a film set for the Popeye movie and now a cheerful theme park. Kids can play, watch shows, and even make their own mini-movies. In summer, there’s also a swimming area in the sea. In the afternoon, we returned to the hotel for some pool time.

Malta itinerary with kids Day 3: Blue Lagoon & Gozo day tour
A long but unforgettable day: a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon on Comino. The water is clear and shallow, perfect for young children. Afterwards, we continued to Gozo for a short island tour and some free time in Victoria. Practical tip: Bring snacks, drinks, and life jackets.

Malta itinerary with kids Day 4: Mdina & Rabat
A day full of culture and atmosphere. First, we visited Mdina with the kids, the “Silent City.” Narrow streets, beautiful gates, and views over Malta. Children can safely run around in this car-free city. Next, we went to Rabat to see St. Paul’s Catacombs and enjoy the playgrounds.

Malta itinerary with kids Day 5: Moving to Marsaskala & highlights along the way
We moved to Portside Lodge Marsaskala. Start early and plan short breaks so little children can manage the day. Along the way, we visited:
- Dingli Cliffs – spectacular cliffs with views over the Mediterranean Sea.
- Ghar Lapsi – rocky bay perfect for snorkeling. Lunch at Dive In Cafe & Grill.
- Blue Grotto – viewpoint and boat tour along magical caves.
- Marsaxlokk – colorful fishing village with a fish market.

Malta itinerary with kids Day 6: Playmobil Fun Park & St. Peter’s Pool
Today was all about kid-friendly fun:
- Stop at St. Peter’s Pool to watch cliff jumpers.
- Lunch at Sensi Beach Lido on the beach.
- Afternoon at Playmobil Fun Park with indoor and outdoor playgrounds, workshops, and themed sets.
- Evening: swimming at the apartment to end the day quietly.

Malta itinerary with kids Day 7: Valletta & The Three Cities
On the last day of our week, we visited Valletta and the Three Cities: Birgu, Senglea, and Cospicua. We wandered through the narrow streets and discovered charming squares. We took a ride on the fun train, and at the Upper Barrakka Gardens, we watched the noon cannon fire—a real highlight for the kids. We ended the day with a walk along the Three Cities waterfront and treated ourselves to ice cream. Practical tip: we parked at the Three Cities and took the water taxi to Valletta (€2 per person), a short boat ride with beautiful views over the harbor.

Extra tips for Malta with kids
Staying in Malta with kids
During our trip to Malta, we noticed that good planning and handy tips make all the difference, especially when traveling with children. For accommodation, we chose two locations, allowing us to explore the island in a relaxed way. Our first stay was at AX ODYCY Hotel in Qawra. This hotel is ideal for families: it has multiple pools, slides, and restaurants with play areas for children, keeping them happily entertained while you relax. Later in the week, we moved to Portside Lodge in Marsaskala, where we had spacious apartments with a private kitchen, beautiful sea views, and a promenade within walking distance. This gave us the flexibility to cook at our own pace and also enjoy an evening stroll with ice cream.
Transport in Malta
To explore the island properly, renting a car is highly recommended. This way, you set your own pace and can easily visit all the highlights. Keep in mind that driving is on the left in Malta, and some small roads are narrow and winding. Parking isn’t always spacious, so check in advance if your accommodation offers parking. For those who prefer not to drive, public transport works well. The Tallinja Card is very useful: it allows unlimited travel by bus and ferry, especially convenient for short trips between the cities and the Three Cities.
Child-Friendly Attractions in Malta
Malta is full of child-friendly attractions. We really enjoyed Popeye Village, where the colorful film set and playgrounds provided instant fun. The Playmobil Fun Park was a hit with our kids, featuring indoor and outdoor play zones and regular fun workshops. The Malta National Aquarium and Splash & Fun Water Park are also high on our list for families, along with smaller amusement parks like Luna Park and Rulina Fun Park.
Nature & Beaches
For nature and beach lovers, Malta has so much to offer. Golden Bay and Mellieħa Bay are perfect sandy beaches for children, while the calm and views at Għajn Tuffieħa and Paradise Bay are simply stunning. St. Peter’s Pool and Ghar Lapsi are great spots for snorkeling and exploring the clear waters. The Dingli Cliffs and Blue Grotto provide breathtaking views, offering a beautiful mix of sun, sea, and culture.
