Planning a trip to Buenos Aires with kids? Definitely do it! Buenos Aires is a fantastic child-friendly city, with well-maintained playgrounds and parks on every corner. It’s highly recommended for families, as itβs not expensive, and many activities are free or have a low cost. Just walking around the city was enjoyable for meβmoving from park to park while enjoying a coffee and a slice of cake in between. Truly a delight! The country also has the best food I’ve experienced so far!
I know many people wonder if itβs a safe city, especially with kids. We didnβt experience any unsafe situations at all. At first, I had to get used to the city; the first few days, I really didnβt feel at ease in Buenos Aires. Itβs beautiful there, but it definitely has a rougher side as well. Many houses and balconies have bars, for instance, which gave me an βunsafe feeling.β It is known that people might try to snatch your phone out of your hand while you’re taking a picture or on a call. Fortunately, that didnβt happen to us, but itβs always good to stay alert, just like in any other big city.
In this blog, I share my favorite activities with kids in Buenos Aires.

This was truly amazing, and my tip is to do this first. We did it through @pachamamaexperience, where Francesco shares all about the history of typical Argentine dishes. This way, youβll know whatβs fun to try for the rest of your stay. He also gives his best restaurant tips. The workshop lasted about 4.5 hours. Elena (3 years) really enjoyed it, while Olivia (1 year) was occasionally a bit restless. But it was manageable. Note: if you have little ones like ours who arenβt fond of trying βnewβ things, bring along a sandwich for them.
We paid β¬45.00 per person in cash (in euros). The children didnβt have to pay. You can book it via Airbnb, but you can also send a DM on Instagram to @pachamamaexperience.

Start at Plaza Serrano, where thereβs a small playground and a lovely market on Saturdays with lots of handmade items; it’s THE place (along with the San Telmo Sunday market) for souvenirs. Youβll also find some nice little shops and a Starbucks (yes, we get coffee from Starbucks on the other side of the world, haha).
Navigate from there to Plaza Armenia (where youβll find a larger playground and carousel starting in the late afternoon). Go through the intersection of Armenia (1700-1800) and El Salvador (4600-4700) to ensure you’re in the charming streets. We ate a few times at La Panera Rosa on Costa Rica Street (across from Armenia Park). Itβs truly delicious, offering everything from cake to bowls, avocado toast, good cuts of meat, fruit, and excellent coffeeβthere’s plenty to choose from! From there, you could walk (or take a taxi) to the Ecoparque or the Botanical Gardens.
Buenos Aires is known for its beautiful historic buildings, and the HipΓ³dromo is stunning in that style! Check the race schedule on their website in advance. Both the ladies and we really enjoyed watching the horse races. A race starts every half hour, lasting less than 5 minutes each. Our favorite part was watching the horses warm up before choosing one to bet on for a few euros. We watched about 4 or 5 races.
Across from the HipΓ³dromo is the Campo Argentino de Polo. Thereβs a play and climbing area open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with lots of stalls for food, a bakery, and a delicious ice cream cart. Climbing is suitable for kids around 6 or 7 years old. There are bouncy castles (including an outdoor area for toddlers who are just starting to walk), a virtual dance competition, virtual reality games, trampolines, and an indoor area for younger children (approximately 1 to 6 years old).
The horse race is free. The play equipment in the polo area is “reasonably priced.” You pay separately for everything. Bouncy castles cost 1000 pesos for the entire day (which is a good deal). However, for the separate indoor play areas, itβs 2500 pesos per child for 30 minutes (which was around 400 during our visit).
Note: Only during the high season (December to the end of February).
This was a fantastic activity to do with the kids in Buenos Aires, a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Itβs on the outskirts of the city, in a huge park with about 10 playgrounds, a water play area, dance classes, a baby section (in the shade), a bouncy castle, and a fake beach with umbrellas and lounge chairs (and sand). There are some stalls where you can get food and drinks (nothing large, no restaurants), and there are restrooms available. You can’t swim there (but you can at Parque Norte).
Itβs completely free and definitely worth a visit. Itβs a place where mostly local people go, and you wonβt find it mentioned in other blogs. But itβs truly a paradise for children.
Note: If you take a taxi, they are not allowed to drive all the way in. Youβll still have to walk about 1 km to get there. If you take the bus, it stops at the park. There are restrooms (not very clean, but manageable). If youβre there for a long day, I would recommend bringing some food, like fruit, etc. There are a few small stalls, but theyβre not very extensive. Water was readily available. If you come by taxi, download the Cabify app to arrange a taxi back. He only did this once we were all the way back at the entrance.
In addition to these activities, there are so many other fun and beautiful things to see in Buenos Aires with kids. Itβs a child-friendly country, not expensive, with friendly people who love children. But they wonβt just touch your kids (haha, yeah!). We had an amazing time for six weeks. There are direct flights from Amsterdam to Buenos Aires. In summer, itβs five hours earlier there, so the jet lag isnβt too bad. Their summer is from December to the end of February, while itβs winter during our summer. Many activities are outdoors, so I would recommend visiting during a time when there isnβt much rain. As long as you can walk outside and explore the city, youβll have a fantastic time!
Good morning everyone from Mexico at the moment. My name is Adriana Ljubic (31 years old), engaged to Mitchell Dikke (30 years old), and we have two daughters, Elena (3 years old) and Olivia (1 year old). We are traveling around the world for 8 months with our girls, staying 6 weeks at each accommodation. Meanwhile, Mitch continues to work on his business.
I would like to visit South Africa and Australia again, but this time with my family. Every country has such a unique culture and individuality, which I find beautiful. We fly all over the world, but I think Austria is a child-friendly country. It’s clean, tidy, and there are many playgrounds, and in most restaurants, you can find coloring pages and play areas (at least in the Zillertal).
We flew from Buenos Aires to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, three weeks ago. During this world trip, we will fly to Lisbon, Montreal & Toronto (Canada), Japan, and then probably Bali and Thailand or Australia. We are chasing the sun (25+ degrees), but I also get just as happy from snow (with sunshine, haha).
