Our favorite destination is New Zealand, a place we love returning to. But during our world trip, we spontaneously decided to visit Siargao in the Philippines. What an amazing island! It’s a beautiful place full of palm trees, where life is simple yet relaxing. This small surf island has so much to offer, and it’s easy to end up staying longer than planned. It reminded us of the vibe in western Bali, before it became too touristy. Besides surfing, you can enjoy magical fireflies, mangrove boat tours, explore a cave adventure (half swimming at high tide), bask in the bounty-blue waters, and much more. A must-visit! One of the key elements of a successful family vacation is the accommodation. We stayed at the beautiful Casa Basa Siargao, and we can’t recommend it enough. The accommodation not only offers comfortable rooms but also has one of the strongest Wi-Fi signals on the island. This is a blessing, considering the unstable Wi-Fi elsewhere on Siargao.

Discover surfing at Cloud 9

Siargao is renowned worldwide as a surfing destination, and Cloud 9 is the hotspot for surfers. Consider taking surfing lessons with your kids—it’s a fantastic way to have fun together and learn new skills. The local surf schools offer lessons for all levels, even for beginners.

Explore the island by scooter

The island has well-maintained roads and light traffic, making it perfect for exploring Siargao by scooter with children. With kids riding along, you can discover the beautiful landscapes, rice fields, and picturesque villages.

Secret beach

At Secret Beach near Duotone Beach (not easily found on Google), close to General Luna, you’ll find a lovely secluded beach with soft sand and calm waters—perfect for children. Also, consider taking a mangrove canoe tour at Duotone Beach, especially magical in the evening when fireflies light up the trees.
