Camper vacation with children

We are Maartje, Sebastiaan, Linde, and Abel. Linde just turned two (April ’21) and Abel is 4 months old (March ’23). Traveling is a big part of our life. Our tenth date was even in Cambodia, where Sebastiaan visited me while I was on a longer trip through Asia. Our travels have not diminished since we became parents two years ago. In fact, we are traveling more and for longer periods now. When Linde was three months old, we traveled to the Czech Republic and Poland. We took into account that this wouldn’t work with a baby and that we would come back after a week. But in the end, we stayed away for over six weeks!

Our first camper trip

During our first trip with Linde, we noticed that we found it impractical to keep unpacking and repacking everything at each new destination. We found a solution in an existing travel dream of ours: a camper van could be our little home on wheels. Back in the Netherlands, we immediately got to work on this, and not long after, we departed with our self-built camper van to Spain and Portugal. We traveled around for over five months and spent the winter in the Algarve and Andalusia. Linde was 7 months old when we left and almost a year old when we returned!

More beautiful trips

The camper van was sold, and then we bought a new, empty van to convert. We also turned that into a little palace, and last winter we traveled for three months through the Balkans and Greece. At that time, I was pregnant with our Abel, so we were traveling with a toddler and a baby bump. We spent the past few months in the Netherlands, and Abeltje was born, but now we are traveling again. With our van, we are now traveling through Southern England!

Our ideal camper

After returning, we also want to sell this camper van again and start thinking about a new camper that better suits a family of four. We also dream of creating a 4×4 camper van and making a big trip from the Netherlands to South Africa. That will have to wait until the kids are a bit older so they can handle those long driving distances more easily. In the meantime, we can start dreaming about what that 4×4 van should look like, and we would like to build it and ship it to Iceland for an awesome trip there. After Africa, we might also want to explore the American continents. So, we have plenty of dreams, and luckily, we are now living off the income from our travel blog, which gives us the freedom to make these beautiful, long trips.
