Kos Town is a great place to explore with children; it is the largest town on the Greek island of Kos. It is a typical Mediterranean tourist resort by the sea. Here, you will find a boulevard with palm trees, countless restaurants, charming streets, and plenty of tourist shops. Some people love it, while others prefer to avoid such places. We enjoy wandering around a tourist spot every now and then, eating ice cream and buying souvenirs. In our opinion, you shouldn’t miss Kos Town during your holiday on this Greek island. In this blog, you will find the best tips for a day in Kos Town with children.

The center of Kos Town is located around the harbor. The water here is green-blue and clear. Large yachts, tourist pirate ships, and old fishing boats sit comfortably side by side. Along the water runs a wide boulevard with palm trees and a bike path. You can enjoy a pleasant walk here, relax on a bench while admiring the view and the tourists, or have a drink at one of the many terraces.
Many boat trips also depart from the harbor, including to the volcanic island of Nisyros and the Turkish resort town of Bodrum. Another fun option with children is the yellow submarine, where you can search for fish and shipwrecks underwater.
From the harbor, you walk uphill with the children towards the old center of Kos Town.

Then, stroll through the narrow alleys of Kos Old Town and you’ll feel like you’re in Greece. The old center of Kos is compact and car-free, making it ideal for a leisurely walk with kids. You’ll find countless restaurants, ice cream parlors, and shops. Be sure not to miss the street where Fish House Taverna is located. It’s the only street in Kos Town that features the typical white and blue colors.
Located at Eleftherias Central Square is the Kos Municipal Market, an indoor market where you can buy the tastiest Greek specialties. It’s quite small, touristy, and the prices are high. Still, it’s fun to walk through and admire the Greek delicacies. You’ll also find a white church with blue domes here: the Church of Agia Paraskevi.
At the southern edge of the harbor lies the medieval castle ruin of Neratzia. In 1816, a massive explosion of the gunpowder magazine caused significant damage to the castle. In recent years, extensive restoration work has taken place. The castle is free to visit and offers a beautiful view of the harbor, the sea, and Kos Town.
In the many cozy streets of Kos Town, you’ll find numerous restaurants and cafés. We had lunch at Ciao Cafe Bistro, enjoying delicious Italian food in a super charming alley.
An ice cream is a must on holiday, right? We love it and searched for the best ice creams in Kos Town for you! You definitely shouldn’t miss the candy store Hans Gretel Kos with kids. It’s a true paradise, not just for children. The ice creams are delicious and the scoops are super big. But the tastiest ice cream can be found at Special Kos, just outside the old center. When you’re here, be sure to try the baklava as well. It’s the best we’ve had in Kos!
There is no shortage of souvenirs in Kos Town! Jewelry, sponges, olive oil… there’s a wide variety to find. We love to take something home for the house. Practical items that still remind you of beautiful travels.
