City trip Tunis with kids
Tips for the best outings during this surprising city trip
In this blog, we share our tips for the best outings during a surprising city trip to Tunis with children.
Our first trip with Sofia was to Tunis (the capital of Tunisia) when she was 2 months old, and it was quite an adventure! We chose Tunisia mainly for the weather and the short flight. It was warm, and after a cold period, we were in need of some nice weather. In the end, the country completely surprised us. With its rich history and vibrant souks, you’ll never get bored.

City trip to Tunis with children – Rent a car
One of the best tips for a vacation to Tunis with children is to rent a car. It’s a life saver, and not just for getting from A to B. Our rental car also served as a place to feed and change Sofia. In Tunisia, there are few places where this is possible, and if the need arises, you can easily pull over.
City trip to Tunis with children – The Roman ruins in Carthage
During our trip to Tunis, we discovered some beautiful and historic places that will enchant both young and old. One of the highlights of our journey was a visit to the Roman ruins in Carthage, which are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This site was once the capital of an ancient empire and later an important part of the Roman Empire. Now, visitors can admire the impressive ruins here, and for history enthusiasts, there is even a special museum dedicated to Carthage nearby.
City trip Tunis with children – The picturesque Sidi Bou Said
After exploring the historical treasures of Carthage, we made our way to the picturesque Sidi Bou Said, a Mediterranean town famous for its enchanting blue-and-white houses. As we strolled through the narrow streets, we enjoyed the breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea from the cozy cafés and restaurants. It felt almost like we were on the Greek island of Santorini! For the art lovers among us, this was a true paradise, with art present everywhere, and we even discovered a beautiful art gallery in the heart of the town.

City trip Tunis with children – The vibrant Medina of Tunis
Then we traveled on to the bustling Medina of Tunis, also a UNESCO World Heritage site. This ancient city welcomed us with its enchanting charm and rich history. As we walked through the narrow streets filled with colorful stalls and traditional crafts, we truly felt immersed in the culture of Tunisia. We admired the beautiful mosques and explored the lively souqs, where we occasionally had to test our skills with a stroller. But let’s be honest, it was an adventure we were more than happy to take on!
City trip Tunis with children – The coastal town of La Marsa
To escape the hustle and bustle of the city, we spent some relaxing time in La Marsa. This coastal town offered the perfect opportunity to unwind and enjoy the sea breeze. We walked along the beach on the charming promenade. It was a wonderful place to take a break and enjoy the stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Our trip to Tunis was an unforgettable adventure filled with history, art, and relaxation. From the Roman ruins in Carthage to the picturesque streets of Sidi Bou Said and the vibrant Medina of Tunis, we learned so much and gained new experiences. Tunisia is definitely a fantastic destination for families looking for a unique cultural travel experience. A city trip to Tunis with children is highly recommended!
