Inspiration: 4-week Thailand itinerary with kids
Travel itinerary and best things to do!
The advantage of traveling to Thailand with children is that you can fly overnight, allowing you to get some hours of sleep—if they sleep, of course! But they did sleep, about 8 out of the 11 hours!
In July, we booked the plane tickets for January. Often, the earlier you book your tickets, the cheaper they are. From that moment on, I started researching the route we wanted to take and booked some accommodations via booking.com . The advantage of booking.com is that you can cancel for free up until the day before, in case you want to stay somewhere longer or find a nicer place.
I mapped out our route little by little by reading up on websites and blogs to see which places appealed to us the most. This is ultimately the route we ended up with, and I will share the best things to do for each location with you.

Thailand itinerary with kids
Bangkok
The famous bike and boat tour by Co van Kessel. Below you can book the bike tour!

KANCHANABURI
By train, you can easily travel from Bangkok (Thon Buri Station) to Kanchanaburi. The train journey is beautiful and highly recommended. We stayed at Oriental Kwai (highly recommended!). In Kanchanaburi, we visited Elephant Haven and the Erawan Waterfalls.

Chiang mai
In Chiang Mai, there is plenty to do with children. We have listed the best activities for you!
♥ Cycling with Co van Kessel
♥ Renting a car and exploring waterfalls
♥ Lunching at River Rock Cafe Hill (on top of a waterfall!) and Cloud 9 Cafe (among the rice fields)
♥ Visiting the Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep temple
♥ Eating and shopping at the night market or Sunday market

Khao Sok
On to Khao Sok National Park, a must-visit if you’re traveling to Thailand with children. We stayed at Khao Sok Morning Mist Resort, where the monkeys also loved to hang out and keep us company by the pool. That makes swimming even more fun! Additionally, you really must take a boat trip on Khao Sok Lake: Cheow Lan Lake, it’s fantastic!

Koh Phangan
A round trip in Thailand with children is not complete without a visit to one of the many islands. We chose Koh Phangan and stayed at the Longtail Beach Resort (highly recommended!). It’s an ideal place to relax, enjoy massages, and if you really want to go out again, you can have a private driver take you around the island for a day.

From Koh Phangan, we flew back to Amsterdam via Bangkok. The night before our return to Amsterdam, we stayed at the Canalis hotel in Bangkok, close to the airport. It’s a lovely hotel to have a good night’s rest before starting your journey back!
Finally, here are the highlights and facts about our trip:
♥ 28 flight hours
♥ 22,000 kilometers
♥ From central to northern to southern Thailand, from beach to jungle
♥ 6 stays
♥ Dozens of Grab/taxi/tuktuk and bus rides
♥ 2 train rides
♥ 6 boat trips
♥ 1,000 photos and videos
But above all, we shared an amazing adventure together. We are so proud of our girls; what great travelers they are. Thailand, thank you!
I hope I have convinced you to take your family to Thailand; it is truly a fantastic country to visit with children. The people are super friendly, they love children, and are incredibly helpful. The infrastructure is very good, and the country is quite affordable. And of course, there are so many beautiful things to see and do.

About Ramona
Hi!
My name is Ramona, and together with my husband Pim and our 3-year-old twins Rox and Coco, we went backpacking through Thailand for a month!
Pim and I own a hair salon in Assen, and we currently have four employees working with us. This means that, even though our daughters are not of school age yet, we seized the opportunity and took a month off.
I have had the opportunity to travel outside of Europe multiple times over the past 10 years, backpacking through Australia, mingling with the local people in Gambia, and enjoying a fantastic vacation in Brazil.
