The best activities for an unforgettable trip to Bali

Do you want to go to Bali with children? Look no further! We have gathered the best tips to make your holiday in Bali an unforgettable trip.

Bali is probably the most famous island in Indonesia. It is about twice the size of Luxembourg and has over four million inhabitants. In about 17 hours (including a layover, usually in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur), you can fly to this tropical island. The best time to visit Bali is from April to September. So, it’s a perfect destination for your next summer vacation!

Bali with children - swimming in a waterfall

If you’re in Bali with children, you definitely shouldn’t miss visiting a waterfall. This island has so many waterfalls that it can often be difficult to choose which one to visit. If you’re going to Bali with kids, opt for Tibumana Waterfall. This waterfall is accessible via a lovely short walk (not stroller-friendly!). Additionally, the water isn’t cold, and the sandy bottom slopes gently. It’s an ideal waterfall for kids (and parents too! ) to swim in.

After swimming, you can enjoy a delicious meal at one of the restaurants around the parking area. For example, at Warung D’Carik Tibumana, where you’ll find tasty ice cream and a nice swing with a stunning view. At Uma Sari D’warung, you can enjoy the best Bami Goreng while overlooking the rice fields.

bali with children - Visit Tis Cafe

Tis Cafe is located in the middle of the rice fields of Tegalalang, a few kilometers above Ubud. This place has it all: delicious food, a view of the rice fields, and a pool where children are also allowed to swim (unfortunately, kids aren’t welcome in every pool). So, this place is definitely not to be missed when traveling to Bali with children.

Start the day here with a delicious breakfast: avocado toast, smoothie bowls, and bagels. They have it all. After that, you can walk right into the beautiful rice fields. Not the rice fields maintained for tourists, but the fields where locals still work hard every day. The fields are free to enter, but a donation is, of course, greatly appreciated.

After a walk through the rice fields, you can cool off in the infinity pool with a view of the green valley. Finally, wrap up the morning with a healthy lunch at the restaurant.

bali with children - a day at bali zoo

Between Ubud and the popular beach resorts of Canggu and Seminyak lies Bali’s zoo: Bali Zoo. In this large and beautiful zoo, you can search for orangutans, lions, tigers, elephants, and rhinoceroses, among others. There are also several restaurants and playgrounds. And don’t forget your swimwear, because at the end of the day, you can cool off in the water park!

Note: Many activities are offered at the zoo that we do not support at all, such as riding elephants or having breakfast with orangutans. Any form of interaction with wild animals should be avoided. For that reason, I even considered removing the zoo from the list. However, we did visit and had a great day with the kids. It’s up to you to decide what you feel comfortable with.

bali with children - the bali bed swing

One of the most popular activities in Bali is the Bali Swing. A high swing that lets you swing at great speed over the most beautiful rice fields and palm trees on the island. However, the swing is not suitable for small children, and there is often a minimum age requirement of 10 years.

However, there is another fun alternative for the kids: the bed swing. Just as enjoyable for the kids, but much safer. You can find bed swings all over Bali. We visited the swings at Alas Harum Bali and the temple Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu, and the latter is especially recommended!
