Our favorite destination is New Zealand, a place we love returning to. But during our world trip, we spontaneously decided to visit Siargao in the Philippines. What an amazing island! Itβs a beautiful place full of palm trees, where life is simple yet relaxing. This small surf island has so much to offer, and it’s easy to end up staying longer than planned. It reminded us of the vibe in western Bali, before it became too touristy. Besides surfing, you can enjoy magical fireflies, mangrove boat tours, explore a cave adventure (half swimming at high tide), bask in the bounty-blue waters, and much more. A must-visit! In this blog, we share our 10 tips for an unforgettable adventure to Siargao with kids.

The island has well-maintained roads and light traffic, making it perfect for exploring Siargao by scooter with children. With kids riding along, you can discover the beautiful landscapes, rice fields, and picturesque villages.
At Secret Beach near Duotone Beach (not easily found on Google), close to General Luna, you’ll find a lovely secluded beach with soft sand and calm watersβperfect for children. For healthy and tasty options, Shaka Cafe is a great place to eat. Be sure to order an acai bowl!
Tayangban Cave is a must-visit, but be sure to wear swimwear and bring floaties for the kids if they can’t swim. It’s not unsafe, but it might be too deep to stand in certain areas.

We are a travel-loving family of four. I, Sheila, have been backpacking for 25 years, and my husband has 28 years of travel experience. It was only natural for us to continue backpacking as a family.
Our children (now 6 and 8 years old) have already seen a lot of the world and have also been on several long trips. For example, we backpacked through New Zealand for three months. But we have also just returned from a year of traveling around the world. We traveled to Canada, the USA (mainland and Hawaii), New Zealand, Australia, Taiwan, Japan, and the Philippines, among other places.
We are now already planning our next long trip or stay abroad. The plan is to live in Bali for a year, but traveling indefinitely is also an option.
